FLINT, Mich. (AP) - A woman who worked as an advocate for Genesee County crime victims has been sentenced to six months in jail for helping to hide a pickup truck involved in a fatal hit-and-run.

In court Monday, Sherry Long said her “bad decision” prolonged the “grief and anguish” for the victim’s family.

A pickup struck and killed Jeff Lee in Flint in 2013. Authorities say the Silverado was registered to Long but driven by her son, Scott Gunn.

Police say the truck was secretly repaired and that Long attempted to influence witnesses. She pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence. Two other charges were dropped.

Long resigned from her job with the Genesee County prosecutor’s office.
