NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Authorities are crediting an alert New Castle County neighbor for calling firefighters to rescue an 11-year-old girl from a creek’s swift moving waters.

WDEL-FM (https://bit.ly/1nLeF1I ) reports that Christiana firefighters on Monday evening used safety lines to rescue the girl, who had been holding on to a tree stump in water nearly up to her armpits. The unidentified girl’s condition has not been released.

Fire officials say Muddy Run Creek, a branch of the Christina River, had a stronger current than usual because of heavy rain that had fallen over the past day.

New Castle County Police are investigating the incident.
