BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A former Vermont circus coach who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a minor more than eight years ago has been given a new case.

The Burlington Free Press reports (https://bfpne.ws/1MjupPF ) that a judge ruled that Vladimir Avgoustov of Winooski wasn’t properly notified of possible citizenship consequences when he accepted the plea agreement in 2007.

The 65-year-old Russian native has been charged again with sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl in 2006. Authorities say the girl was a student at a summer camp connected with the now-defunct Vermont School of Circus Arts.

Avgoustov has been serving a 10-year prison sentence.

The decision means Avgoustov is presumed innocent. His lawyer says it’s too early to tell if the case will go to trial.

A hearing is scheduled for Friday.
