FRANKLIN, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a 59-year-old northern New York man has died after his off-road vehicle fell through the ice on an Adirondack pond.

Troopers say the state Department of Environmental Conservation in Ray Brook received a call around 10:30 a.m. Monday reporting a missing fisherman on Union Falls Pond in Franklin County. Officers were told that Gregory Manchester of Franklin had driven his utility task vehicle out onto the ice Sunday to go fishing.

Forest rangers and the state police aviation unit searched the area and the UTV was spotted partially submerged. Foot prints were found leading from the shoreline to a seasonal cabin, where Manchester was lying on the floor unresponsive and suffering from severe hypothermia.

He was taken to Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, where he was pronounced dead.
