WEST MILFORD, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say they’ve suspended their search for a Jersey City man who plunged into a northern New Jersey river from a rock cliff last week.

The Record newspaper reports (https://bit.ly/1QTE9Ex ) the state Department of Environmental Protection said Monday that state park police are continuing “land-based recovery efforts” to find 21-year-old Wajhat Yaquoob.

Officials said last week that they were investigating a reported drowning after four people told police a man who had been swimming with them at Long Pond Ironworks State Park didn’t surface from the Wanaque River.

The DEP says the search was hampered by hazardous conditions brought on by strong currents and shafts below the rock surface. They were looking in an area where swimming is prohibited.
