AIKEN, S.C. (AP) - A state prosecutor has cleared three Aiken county sheriff’s deputies in the 2015 shooting death of a 57-year-old Aiken man during a confrontation at his home.

The Aiken Standard reported (https://bit.ly/1U430JR ) Tuesday that the State Law Enforcement Division has closed the case involving the death of Brian Gavin after no criminal charges were filed. Prosecutor Strom Thurmond Jr. said there was no wrongdoing by the officers.

Gavin died Nov. 11. Deputies were called to a domestic dispute at the home. Officers had left after the situation appeared under control, but returned after hearing shots fired. They found Gavin pointing a gun at a woman.

A sheriff’s report says the deputies ordered Gavin to drop his weapon, but he refused and several deputies used their weapons.

The woman was not hurt.
