PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona regulators have fined a Tempe businessman nearly $1.3 million for hundreds of violations of contracting law by doing heating and cooling work without a contractor’s license.

The Registrar of Contractors on Wednesday announced $1,277,500 in civil penalties against 59-year-old Ronald Cohen Dew following an investigation that led to a civil citation alleging 491 violations.

The registrar on Tuesday accepted a decision and order recommended by an administrative law judge who conducted a hearing. Dew had contested the citation.

The registrar said it had investigated Dew on multiple occasions dating back to 2009. In the earlier matters, the registrar said Dew sabotaged customers’ equipment and charged for unnecessary parts.

No phone is listed in Dew’s name, and records don’t list current contact information for his company, Acme Home Services LLC.
