NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Two Indian nationals have been indicted for allegedly smuggling foreign nationals into the United States on commercial airline flights.

Nileshkumar Patel and Harsad Mehta both face counts of conspiracy to bring in and harbor aliens, money laundering conspiracy and smuggling foreign nationals into the U.S. for financial gain.

They were arrested last October.

The U.S. attorney’s office says the men told an undercover government informant in Thailand in 2014 that they wanted to smuggle Indian nationals into the U.S. and that they would pay $10,000 for each person they smuggled.

They agreed to bring the individuals from India to Thailand, and agreed the informant would use his contacts to smuggle the people from Thailand to the U.S.

Attorneys for the two men couldn’t be reached Thursday.
