ELKO, Nev. (AP) - Two Delta flights going through Elko, Nevada, have been cancelled so the airport can change the designation of its main runway.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports (https://bit.ly/1R0sxB1 ) that Elko Regional Airport Director Mark Gibbs says the runway’s compass setting needs to be adjusted because the North Pole’s magnetic field is always in a state of flux.

Gibbs says the airport’s main commercial service runway is designated as 5/23 but should actually be 6/24. The update will cause the runway to be closed from 7 a.m. March 26 until 8 p.m. March27.

One canceled Delta flight was set to arrive in Elko on March 26. The other was scheduled to leave the next morning.

Several taxiways will also close for painting and signage changes.
