BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Montana superintendent of schools and U.S. Congress candidate Denise Juneau will serve as the main speaker at the North Dakota Democratic convention banquet in Bismarck.

The banquet is slated for 7 p.m. April 2 at the Bismarck Event Center.

Juneau is a member of the North Dakota’s Three Affiliated Tribes. She also is a former teacher on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation in North Dakota.

Juneau is considered a rising star within Montana’s Democratic Party. She is the first Native American to hold statewide office in Montana and the first openly lesbian candidate to seek Montana’s congressional seat.
