LANSING, Mich. (AP) - The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has awarded 18 grants to continue development of the Iron Belle Trail, which runs more than 1,200 miles between Detroit and Ironwood in the western Upper Peninsula.

A total of $350,000 was divided among the recipients for route planning, engineering, design, trail signs and other projects.

DNR trails coordinator Paul Yauk says 72 percent of the hiking route and 58 percent of the bicycling route are completed.

Among those receiving grants are a number of cities, counties, townships and the North Country Trail Association.
