PINEVILLE, Mo. (AP) - A southwest Missouri man was sentenced to nine months in jail for a traffic accident that killed a Joplin woman.

A McDonald County jury on Wednesday convicted 37-year-old Joshua Vaughan of Neosho of second-degree involuntary manslaughter in the death of 56-year-old Marguerite Ward. The jury then sentenced him to jail.

Ward was killed and Vaughan was injured in the accident south of Joplin in December 2012. Witnesses testified that Vaughan pulled into the oncoming lane to pass another driver and collided with Ward’s vehicle.

The Joplin Globe reports (https://bit.ly/1RR2yZ5 ) Vaughan was not accused of any impaired driving and had no alcohol in his system. He testified he pulled into Ward’s lane to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of him when its driver suddenly slowed.
