NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - Authorities say a motorcyclist died after crashing and falling more than 30 feet from a Newport News highway.

Virginia State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya tells news outlets that 60-year-old Judge Martin Haugen, of Norfolk, lost control of his motorcycle on Wednesday afternoon, ran off the roadway and was thrown into a parking lot 32 feet below Interstate 664.

He later died at a hospital from his injures.

Authorities say alcohol and speed did not play a factor in the accident.
