MILWAUKEE (AP) - Fired University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men’s basketball coach Rob Jeter says it’s been a difficult day.

Athletic director Amanda Braun announced his dismissal Thursday, saying a change in leadership was needed to consistently be a top program in the Horizon League.

Green Bay knocked Milwaukee out of the Horizon League tournament in the second round last week. The Panthers finished 20-13.

As he cleaned out his office, Jeter told WTMJ-TV (https://bit.ly/21y2EKe ) he’s proud of what his teams have accomplished, and how his players have conducted themselves in the community and academically.

Jeter had been the Panthers’ coach for 11 seasons, compiling a 185-170 overall record, and had one year left on his contract.

Braun says the search will begin for a new coach with “a proven record of continued success.”
