PHOENIX (AP) - A second suspect accused in the fatal shootings of two women in the Phoenix suburb of Surprise has pleaded not guilty.

Maricopa County Superior Court officials say Montez Lavell Wright II had his arraignment Friday.

He’s been charged with two counts of first-degree murder along theft, burglary and fraudulent use of a credit card in the deadly home invasion at a Surprise retirement community.

Authorities say 70-year-old Barbara Leslie and 75-year-old Ruth Schwed were found shot to death in Leslie’s home on Feb. 9.

Schwed was visiting from Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The 23-year-old Wright was arrested in Southfield, Michigan and extradited to Arizona last week.

A co-defendant in the case also has pleaded not guilty to murder charges.

Authorities say the men were employed as gardeners at the retirement community.
