BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - A jury has convicted a 74-year-old Ballantine man of shooting his son to death during an argument.

The Billings Gazette reports (https://goo.gl/pggMHR ) jurors found James Douglas Sindelar guilty Friday evening of negligent homicide in the July 20 death of 35-year-old Wesley Sindelar.

The elder Sindelar testified Thursday that he and his son struggled over the weapon before it discharged.

Last week, Wesley Sindelar’s wife, Victoria Sindelar, said in court that James Sindelar came into their house and her husband told him to leave several times. She said James Sindelar pointed the pistol at Wesley’s face, and the gun discharged when her husband grabbed the barrel.

Public defender Roberta Drew asked jurors Friday to consider the lesser offense of negligent homicide or to find James Sindelar not guilty.
