LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Ben Weyer scored 27 points and Brennan Hall added 21 to lead Newport Central Catholic over Murray 75-54 in a KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16 tournament quarterfinal Friday

NewCath (30-4), the 9th Region champion, shot its way into the semifinal round in the first half, when it went 11 for 18 from the field and 7 for 10 from 3-point range.

The Thoroughbreds, who will play Paul Laurence Dunbar or Bowling Green on Saturday, opened a 28-10 lead early in the second quarter and coasted through the second half, leading by as many as 24 points.

Murray (30-6), the 1st Region champion, was just 5 for 22 from the field in the first half and shot 29 percent overall. NewCath finished at 44 percent.

Weyer was 5 for 6 from 3-point range for the Thoroughbreds, who were 11 for 18 overall, and he had 12 rebounds.

Ethan Clark led the Tigers with 10 points.
