PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Police say an elderly woman was fatally struck by a car in Providence.

It happened around 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Police say a car was traveling east on Huntington Avenue when it crossed the center median, became airborne and hit the 77-year-old woman as she was walking on the sidewalk.

The victim’s identity has not been released.

Police say criminal charges are pending against the driver. The crash remains under investigation.
