STANTON, Del. (AP) - Police say they are charging a 19-year-old man with murder in connection with the death of his grandfather.

The New Castle County Police Department said Saturday that 69-year-old James Steppi was found dead in his home by his daughter on Friday. Police say Steppi’s grandson, Shawn Hagerty, has been taken into custody in Landenberg, Pennsylvania.

The department says it has issued an arrest warrant for Hagerty for first degree murder and other charges. He’s awaiting extradition.

Police say Hagerty was the last person seen leaving Steppi’s home in his grandfather’s car. Officers in Pennsylvania spotted the car and took Hagerty into custody.

A police spokeswoman said Saturday that she didn’t know whether Hagerty has an attorney yet.
