PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - Two men were wounded when shots rang out on a Paterson street.

The shooting occurred around 3:45 a.m. Saturday in the area of East 23rd Street and Hamilton Avenue.

Police went there after getting an alert through the city’s gunfire detection system, but did not find any victims. But they soon learned that two men wounded in the shooting had gone to a hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Authorities say a 23-year-old Wayne man was shot in the arm, while a 30-year-old Passaic man had a graze wound to his head. Both were listed in stable condition, but further details about them were not disclosed.

Authorities say a motive for the shooting has not been determined.
