OSCEOLA, Ark. (AP) - Big River Steel has announced it is successfully processing steel with the commissioning of its batch anneal furnaces and skin pass mill.

The Jonesboro Sun reports (bit.ly/1R7vwGy) that’s a first step to bringing equipment online to last throughout the year at the company’s Flex Mill, located north of Memphis, Tennessee.

Arkansas Economic Development Commission spokesman Scott Hardin says this phase of the construction process means Big River Steel will be at full production later in the year.

Big River Steel represents the largest private investment in the state’s history. Once finished, the plant is expected to employ more than 500 people with an average annual pay of $75,000.
