NEW YORK (AP) - A decomposed body pulled from the Hudson River this week has been identified as the homeless man wanted for stabbing his roommate to death at a New York City shelter.

A spokeswoman for the city medical examiner’s office says the body was positively identified as Anthony White on Saturday.

The 21-year-old White was wanted in the Jan. 27 stabbing of Deven Black inside the Boulevard Homeless Shelter in East Harlem.

The 62-year-old Black was a former city schoolteacher and librarian. Family members said he had struggled with mental illness.

Shelter residents said White had threatened to kill someone in the days leading up to the attack. Police said he had psychiatric issues dating back to at least 2013.

White fled after the stabbing.
