CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - Casper equipment manufacturer Power Service Inc. has laid off more than 50 employees.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/25bu9Or ) that Power Service officials confirmed the job cuts Friday, saying they are the first layoffs in the company’s history. The company employed about 500 workers before the layoffs.

The layoffs come as the energy industry continues to struggle, leading to a rise in unemployment in Wyoming.

Power Service avoided firing employees during the 2008 downturn in oil revenue. Power Service Vice President Jake Hagar told the Star-Tribune last year that the company was focusing on savings rather than cutting staff.
