BALTIMORE (AP) - Officials have reached a compromise that will allow year-round off-track betting at the Timonium fairgrounds.

The Baltimore Sun reports (bsun.md/21ALmMz) that the Maryland State Fair and Greater Timonium Community Council reached the agreement on Friday.

Under the deal, fair officials have pledged not to push for casino gambling. In exchange, Timonium leaders promise not to oppose the off-track betting facility.

Off-track betting currently takes place at the fairgrounds only during the summer meet that coincides with the state fair. But the Maryland Jockey Club wants to open a year-round simulcast facility with off-track betting at the fairgrounds.

The off-track betting facility is expected to draw about 100 to 150 people per day. Residents were worried that it would open the door to even more gambling at the fairgrounds.
