MINOT, N.D. (AP) - Crews are replacing hundreds of streetlights in the Minot area with more efficient LED, or light-emitting diode lights.

KXMC-TV reports (bit.ly/25btCMo) that Xcel Energy workers are making the change to almost 3,500 streetlights across North Dakota, including about 1,200 in Minot, Burlington, Berthold and Des Lacs.

Xcel says the LEDs are more efficient and last longer, requiring fewer maintenance trips to replace burned out bulbs.

XCel expects the LED replacement project to be done in the Minot area in about two weeks. After that, crews will head to Grand Forks and Fargo.
