COLCHESTER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Student Assistance Corp. is hosting a free college planning event for prospective students.

The event takes place Saturday at St. Michael’s College in Colchester.

It includes workshops on topics ranging from creating a college list that fits student needs and family finances to writing a college essay that stands out.

Student panelists also will discuss “what I wish I had known” about applying and going to college and the challenges and successes once they were enrolled.

The event, which runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., is geared toward high school sophomores and juniors. Similar events are planned for April 2 at Castleton State College and April 4 at Lyndon State College.
