SPRING LAKE, N.C. (AP) - More than 40 acres of land burned after wind caused a grass fire to spread near Spring Lake.

Westarea Fire Assistant Chief Phil Taranto tells the Fayetteville Observer (https://bit.ly/1QmqENq) that the fire began around 1 p.m. Tuesday near the northern point of Fort Bragg. Part of the fire extended into Carver’s Creek State Park.

Taranto says several structures, including homes and barns, were damaged in the fire, but no people were hurt.

By 3 p.m., Taranto says the fire was under control. Firefighters from Harnett County, Spring Lake and Fayetteville assisted Cumberland County with extinguishing the blaze.
