RUGBY, N.D. (AP) - Amtrak is eliminating its station agent in Rugby effective June 1.

Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari tells the Minot Daily News (https://bit.ly/1Qr3WSb ) that the change is being made because of the high volume of train passengers obtaining tickets online.

The Rugby agent is being moved to the Minot station. Magliari says a caretaker will open and close the Rugby station.

Amtrak’s Empire Builder line between Chicago and the Pacific Northwest passes through eastern and northern North Dakota. There are stations in Fargo, Grand Forks, Devils Lake, Rugby, Minot, Stanley and Williston. Former Rugby Mayor Dale Niewoehner (NEE’-wahn-ur) says stations in Stanley, Devils Lake and Grand Forks also have no ticket agent.
