SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - A cashier has been arrested for her involvement in the theft of nearly $5,000 in merchandise from a department store.

Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator, in a news release Wednesday, said 36-year-old Tomika Carroll, of Shreveport, was arrested on a charge of felony theft and taken to the Shreveport City Jail. It was unknown if Carroll has an attorney who could comment on her behalf.

Prator says Carroll worked at Stage, where she allegedly used her position as a cashier to steal merchandise. Authorities say Carroll would scan merchandise for family members and then void the items, allowing her relatives to leave with the merchandise without paying.

The investigation is ongoing with more arrests expected.
