SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) - Dozens of law enforcement officers attended a memorial service for Jojo, the veteran San Bernardino County sheriff’s K-9 that died after a training exercise.

Jojo’s handler, Detective Brad Phillips, said such was his bond with the 4-year-old German Shepherd that he brought the dog on family vacations.

An Honor Guard Detail and procession of handlers with K-9s were part of Tuesday’s ceremony at the Frank Bland Regional Training Center.

The Sun newspaper reports (https://bit.ly/1TQyzpX ) Jojo choked to death in January after getting an object lodged in his throat.

The K-9, a 3-year department veteran, was trained in explosive detection and tracking. The dog was also a fixture at community outreach events.
