FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - Fort Smith police say a veteran officer has resigned after being arrested on alcohol-related charges.

Police say 33-year-old Carson Addis was off duty when he was arrested Tuesday at police headquarters where he was to attend a meeting.

Police say Addis was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated and refusing to submit to a breath test and that he resigned immediately.

Addis was an 11-year veteran of the police department.
