GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) - A jury has found an east Alabama man guilty of capital murder in the death of his 20-month-old daughter.
The Gadsden Times reports (bit.ly/1ni42TT) that jurors deliberated Stephon Lindsay’s fate for less than two hours Tuesday before reaching the decision.
During the trial, jurors heard Lindsay say on video that his so-called God, “Yahweh,” instructed him to kill his daughter Maliyah.
He told police cut daughter’s throat in a downstairs room of his apartment while the child’s mother was asleep upstairs.
Investigators have said in a warrant that the girl was partially decapitated with a small hatchet.
Gadsden police found the child’s body in a wooded area on March 12, 2013.
Lindsay had pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.
