JACKSON, Mich. (AP) - A judge has ordered a Jackson County teenager to up to 40 years in prison in the shooting death of his 20-year-old brother.

The Jackson Citizen Patriot reports (https://bit.ly/1RHvKnJ ) Circuit Judge John McBain sentenced 17-year-old Riley Spitler on Wednesday to 20 to 40 years in prison. He was convicted in January of second-degree murder in the December 2014 death of Patrick Spitler.

Authorities say Riley Spitler told detectives he pointed a handgun at his brother, took a bullet out of the chamber and said, “Let’s see if it’s your lucky day.” Spitler say he didn’t expect the gun to fire.
