PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Washington County authorities say they have arrested a man accused of trying to break into a home as deputies followed him through a neighborhood near Portland.

The Oregonian reports (https://goo.gl/ig0in5 ) that 22-year-old Elijah Andrew James Halverson was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of several charges, including attempted burglary and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that Halverson, who was thought to be armed, had run away from deputies and tried to break into a residence until he was confronted by the homeowner.

Deputies eventually arrested Halverson in the backyard of a home.

They say two guns found buried in a house’s crawlspace nearby have been tied to Halverson.

The case remains under investigation.
