BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a western New York stepfather intentionally shot two young girls with a BB gun multiple times as punishment.

The Erie County Sheriff’s office charged 29-year-old Steven Scroger with assault and weapons counts after being alerted by medical staff at a clinic where the 4- and 6-year-old girls were taken for treatment.

Scroger was being held at the Erie County Holding Center in Buffalo Tuesday pending an appearance in Concord Town Court scheduled for Thursday. It’s not known whether he has a lawyer. A phone number for the family couldn’t be located.
