LAKEWOOD, N.J. (AP) - The owner of a New Jersey home destroyed by a fire earlier this week has been cited for running an unauthorized dorm at the location.

The Asbury Park Press reports (https://on.app.com/1VPiRJB ) investigators found 27 beds inside the two-story Lakewood home on Monday. Authorities believe a space heater ignited an air mattress and the blaze spread throughout the home.

The township issued a violation notice on Tuesday for changing the home’s use without permission. Records show the home is limited to no more than five roomers or lodgers.

The owner couldn’t be reached for comment.
