LOS LUNAS, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say a 19-year-old man has been arrested in the killing in Valencia County of his girlfriend.

New Mexico State Police say a crime-scene investigation and interviews led to the arrest Tuesday of Michael Ray Rodriguez of Los Lunas.

The victim was found with her throat apparently cut in a residence in Tome.

According to state police, Rodriguez had blood stains on his clothing and shoes when found and witnesses said Rodriguez was seen at the residence with the victim before she was found dead.

Rodriguez was booked into jail on suspicion of murder. It was not immediately clear whether he has an attorney who could comment on the allegations.

State police say an autopsy will be conducted to positively identify the victim and determine cause of death.
