GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - Grand Forks police say they have charged a Central High School teacher with engaging in a sexual act with an underage student.

Police say 41-year-old James Patrick Whalen, of Grand Forks, is charged with two counts of corruption of a minor, one for an alleged incident on school grounds and another for an alleged incident at a private residence within the city. The incidents are alleged to have taken place between November and February.

Court records do not list an attorney for Whalen. A telephone message left at a listed number was not immediately returned.

Whalen is listed on the school’s website as head of the science department.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
