BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A U.S. senator from New York will be a featured speaker at the North Dakota Democratic convention next month.

Kirsten Gillibrand will give the convention’s keynote speech on April 2. The convention is being held at the Bismarck Civic Center March 31 to April 2.

Gillibrand is an attorney. She was elected to the U.S. House in November 2006. She was appointed to the Senate in January 2009 to fill the seat left open when President Barack Obama appointed then-Sen. Hillary Clinton as secretary of state.

North Dakota Republicans are holding their convention April 1-3 in Fargo. The party has not announced featured speakers.
