SNOWFLAKE, Ariz. (AP) - Navajo County Sheriff’s officials say a suspect has been detained in connection with a fatal shooting in Snowflake.

They say 40-year-old Gabriel Barnes is being held for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The White Mountain Regional Homicide Taskforce will report their findings to the county attorney’s office to determine if additional charges will be filed.

Sheriff’s deputies were called out to Barnes’ home on a report of shots fired Monday morning and say they found evidence of a gun battle.

They say 56-year-old Darrell Richey suffered a gunshot wound to his torso and died at the scene.

Barnes fled but was detained Tuesday at a different location in Snowflake.

It was unclear Wednesday if he has a lawyer yet.
