VENTURA, Calif. (AP) - Ventura County authorities are investigating the death of a 61-year-old inmate who collapsed while awaiting a scheduled appearance at the Superior Courthouse.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Denise Sliva says deputies performed CPR on the man until rescue crews brought him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead Tuesday.

Sliva says foul play is not suspected. The death will be investigated by the department’s major crimes unit, which is protocol when an inmate dies in sheriff’s custody.

The man had been an inmate since late January. His name was not immediately released.

The Ventura County Star newspaper reports (https://bit.ly/1LV3g5D) the man was the third inmate to die in the county this year.
