LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Dona Ana County Sheriff’s officials say a wanted felon is in custody and facing a charge of aggravated fleeing of a law enforcement officer.

They say 26-year-old Roberto Garcia has been extradited to Otero County on the warrant.

Garcia was stopped Feb. 20 in Chaparral, but refused to get out of his vehicle when asked to by a sheriff’s deputy.

The officer then tried to pull Garcia out of the car but he put it in gear and drove off with the deputy inside.

Garcia ignored demands from the deputy to stop the vehicle so he hit Garcia over the head with a flashlight.

That made Garcia stop and he was arrested for suspicion of speeding, failure to provide a valid driver’s license, resisting or obstructing arrest and other charges.
