MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A Republican congressman from Wisconsin who was an early critic of Donald Trump is now backing Florida Sen. Marco Rubio for president.

U.S. Rep. Reid Ribble announced his endorsement Wednesday during an interview on WTMJ radio in Milwaukee.

Ribble was one of the first Republican office holders last year to speak out against Trump. Ribble continued the criticism on Wednesday, saying in the radio interview that Democrat Hillary Clinton would crush Trump in Wisconsin.

Ribble says he is backing Rubio even though he knows he faces an extremely difficult path to the GOP nomination.

His endorsement comes after Wisconsin’s Republican Sen. Ron Johnson earlier this week backed away from his pledge to support whoever is the GOP nominee, saying he is praying for a candidate with integrity.
