WASHINGTON (AP) - Gas prices in the Washington metro area are up 5 cents from a week ago.

AAA Mid-Atlantic said Sunday in a statement that the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas in the metro area is $1.98, up from $1.93 a week ago. The price is the same as the national average. The price is 42 cents lower than this time a year ago, when the price was $2.40.

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas in the District of Columbia alone is $2.09, up 6 cents from a week ago.
