GARDENDALE, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a board of education member has died in a single-vehicle crash in central Alabama.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office tells multiple news outlets that Jefferson County Board of Education member Dean Taylor Jr. died in a crash early Saturday. Authorities say the 35-year-old Taylor was killed when his sports utility vehicle was driving in the left roadway, lost control, traveled down an embankment and struck a tree.

Taylor was the only occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Taylor has been a school board member since November 2014.
