BOSTON (AP) - Multiple performances of a play about solitary confinement are scheduled across Massachusetts this week to bring attention to the practice in state prisons.

“Mariposa and the Saint: From Solitary Confinement, A Play Through Letters” is a one-act play about the true story of a woman locked in solitary confinement for nearly three years in a California prison.

The production has toured all over country. It will debut Wednesday in Massachusetts at Boston University School of Law’s Jacob Sleeper Auditorium, with a vigil an hour before the show.

It will also be performed Thursday at the Milford Performing Arts Center, Friday at Suffolk University Law School and Saturday at the First Church in Roxbury.

State legislators are considering a bill that would place new limits on the use of solitary confinement.
