NEWTON, Mass. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after a Newton middle school student says he was robbed at knifepoint on his way to school.

Police say a man approached the 12-year-old boy just after 9 a.m. Monday on River Street and brandished a knife.

WBZ-TV reports there was a struggle and the boy fell to the ground.

The man took the boy’s cellphone.

The boy, a student at F.A. Day Middle School, reported the incident to a nurse.

He was taken to Boston Children’s Hospital for minor injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
