WAYNE, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a New Jersey man fatally beat a six-month-old Husky puppy with a kitchen chair during a fight with another man.

Wayne police tell NJ.com (https://bit.ly/1Sd3k5e ) that 23-year-old township resident John Varcadipone was charged with aggravated assault and animal cruelty resulting in death. His bail was set at $75,000 and it wasn’t known Monday if he has retained an attorney.

The charges stem from a fight that occurred Friday morning at a home in Wayne. Responding officers found the dog’s body inside the home.

It’s not clear what prompted the fight or what allegedly caused Varcadipone to attack the dog.

Varcadipone was arrested at a hospital where he had sought treatment for injuries suffered in the fight.
