THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after a dog was found sexually assaulted and hanged to death from a tree in Thurston County.

Thurston County Animal Services Officer Erika Johnson says a mountain biker discovered a pit bull hanging from a tree on Department of Natural Resources land on Monday.

She says perpetrators asphyxiated the dog by hanging her from a branch with her feet barely touching the ground.

Johnson also said evidence suggests the dog was severely sexually assaulted while being restrained.

A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.

Anyone with information is asked to call 360-352-2510.
