OLD TOWN, Maine (AP) - The state Attorney General’s office has taken over the investigation of a former Old Town police officer.

Sergeant Michael Hashey resigned last April after 23 years on the force.

Old Town Police Chief Scott Wilcox had said Hashey is under investigation for allegedly taking items from the Old Town Police Department evidence room.

The Waldo County District Attorney’s office had been handling the investigation to avoid a conflict of interest in Penobscot County, but WABI-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1UdQnvC ) that the state attorney general’s office has taken over.

Hashey hasn’t been charged.

He couldn’t be reached for comment in June. There was no phone listing in his name. It wasn’t immediately clear if he is being represented by an attorney.
